A: Cloning.... I similar tutorials on this in this DVD... Motion Control.
Q: Sean Boughner: How does the bird itself move and the background stay put? Isn't it all just one flattened image?
A: You mask to extract the bird... then use clone tools to fill in the holes. You can download a basic tutorial for a similar technique Handout | Demo Files | DVD Available.
Q: pozzlux: Smart Objects seem like such an obviously good idea, there must be a downside. Why wouldn't the program simply make all pixel-based layers into a smart object?
A: On high res images... it gets slow... not all commands are available.
Q: madelaney3: Can you repeat the web address that was given in answer to the quest re: Ken Burns effect?
A: Here is an article... here is a DVD.
Q: Mauricio Calderon: can u make a selection on the video clip and apply filters to that specific selection?
A: Yes... but if the object moves you have issues. IF you make the clip a Smart Filter, you can globally apply the a filter... otherwise they apply one frame at a time.
Q: kevindy: can you save the video file with the layered adjustments for future use?
A: Yes, just save the PSD. You can also import the file into AE as a layered comp and most adjustment layers translate so you can modify the effects with keyframes.
Q: Pcarston: why would you use Photohsop over AE or Premiere for working on a video?
A: Certain color correction tasks, frame averaging, storyboards, DVD menu design, reference clips when designing lower-thirds, cloning, healing, scratch removal, lots of reasons....
Q: 52club: can you save/export video clips to different video formats?
A: You can go to any codec (compressor/decompressor) you have on your system inlcuding native formats for Apple, Avid, Panasonic, and Sony.
Q: InkaBoy: I imported a video, but only get the first frame, what if I want a different frame from the video?
A: Press the Space Bar to play or open the Animation Window
Q: rajesh11: If we bring in a vector image from Illustrator as Smart Object into PS and then open the .psd file into AE will the Illustrator file still remain vector in AE?
A: No.. but that is a GOOD feature request. Smart Objects don't currently work in AE. But you can send a request to aftereffects@adobe.com to request it.
Q: Kongadobe: can you apply a smart filter and blur the photo then use a paint brush to reveal the visible selection?
A: Yes... just paint on the layer mask with White or Black as needed.
Q: AireSonic: How did you view the animation timeline
A: Window > Animation
Q: Christian Gomez 2: can you draw things on the video file and that will be saved in the frames?
A: Yes... I often clone to an empty layer above... or use text layers in this way.
Q: 3DDiva: Can you paint continuously on video in PS?
A: You paint from frame to frame... but there are onion-skinning tools.
