When importing graphics into Avid editing systems, you need to be aware of which color space the graphics were created in. Avif will ask you if the graphic has RGB (0-255) or 601 (16-235) levels. The answer may seem obvious, but its not.
Photoshop:
If you are designing in Adobe Photoshop, by default you’ll have RGB levels. Therefore import with RGB levels.
However many designers choose to add an adjustment layer to their graphics to make them broadcast safe. If you’ve clamped your levels to fall within the range of 16-235, then you should import your graphics with 601 levels.
After Effects:
By default, After Effects works in RGB space. The best solution for Avid users is to render with an Avid codec. The Avid codec will take over and ensure that the Avid correctly interprets both color and alpha data.
To download the latest versions of the Avid codecs visit the Avid web page. The codecs keep moving depending on updates. We find it safest to visit http://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/ where you can click the Downloads and Updates button. From the next page just search for codecs, the latest version shouild be first on the results list.
